Kinds of Kindness also features Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, and Hong Chau.

When Emma Stone and her Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos first worked together on 2018’s The Favourite, they quickly identified as a couple of funky peas in a funky pod, with their friendship becoming a fun talking point around Poor Things during Oscar season—especially since it culminated in Stone winning a second Best Actress trophy (right after she broke her dress during “I’m Just Ken”). The two have made it plain that they want to continue working together, and, hey, what’s this? They apparently have a new film coming out in June. As an example, take June.

Poor Things team Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone are ready to premiere their new project this summer.
Director Yorgos Lanthimos and American actress Emma Stone have collaborated on their next project, Kinds of Kindness, which will be released in theatres this summer.

According to Variety, the film’s distributors, Searchlight, an indie studio, have scheduled the Poor Things duo’s next collaboration for release on June 21.

Though the impending movie’s concept has yet to be brought intot what it’s about, as Kinds Of Kindness hits theatres on June 21, 2024.

We might also deduce that the film is about various types of generosity and/or the word “and,” because Lanthimos’ films typically have simple titles—The Lobster is about a lobster, The Favourite is about a favourite (in the posh European meaning), and Poor Things is about poor things. He isn’t just putting together words that sound good.

There isn’t much known about Kinds of Kindness’s subject or plot, but Dafoe did mention in an interview last year (when the film was still titled as And) that one sequence includes Stone smacking him in the face. Although Dafoe was not necessary to be there on site to film the event (which could have taken place mostly offscreen), he insisted on taking the staged blow around 20 times.

Lanthimos discussed in an interview with EW last year why he enjoys working with Stone and how their cooperation evolved from director/actress to Stone also serving as producer on Poor Things.
